EduFlicks ‘Hollywood Classroom Project’, working closely with Hollywood action director David Lane and film/ fx producer Michele Fabian Jones we were tasked with the role of design, conceptualisation and visualisation of an educational app for use by secondary education students.
We were given a simple storyboard which we developed and re-designed resulting in a learning concept app that uses work groups/ smart phones and social media platforms to engage students with creative film challenges orientated around curriculum based subject matter, rather like a ‘digital exercise book’. We also worked on green screen compositing work for the pre-loaded content, the example being the balcony scene from Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The app is currently in further development based on our supplied user journey examples, design and compositing.
Our time is up – nature, time and the public have all taken their toll and intervened with the artwork in Bottle Alley, it’s reached the Point of Decay and the restoration of the walkaway has begun. We went back to document the remains you can view the images and read about the project here.
We’ve just completed work on the third and final design for BBE records signee Ghostchant, the last single to be released from his debut album ‘Sincerity’ in March. You can view the covers as a collection here.
WE HELD A SOLD OUT NEW YEARS EVE PARTY celebrating our 15th anniversary as ZEROH and the opening of The Printworks in the America Ground, Hastings. The party proved to be a huge success with us taking to the decks for 6 hours the first time in a club in nearly 10 years.
The 300 guests kept the dancefloor going strong all night long and we figured we’d do it a few more times throughout the year as the town seems to lack an open-minded dance event where people of any age can come together and just dance the night away. More info can be found here www.somethingunreal.com where you can sign up to the newsletter and find out about the next event and other events we dj at.
A review of Andrew Kötting‘s film By Our Selves, now on limited general release, features in the November 2015 edition of Sight and Sound magazine. Andrew asked us to contribute to the film in a number of ways and shared some of the early cuts of the film with us, we did the initial titles/ 30 seconds of comping/ a triptych portrait of Andrew as a Straw Bear for an installation presentation of the film and contributed prints to the Kickstarter campaign, all tiny pieces of the bigger picture but we’re very proud to have played a small part in such a stunningly beautiful thing. This review also gives us our first BFI Filmography listing.
We were once again asked to create the opening event for, Hastings and St.Leonards Arts Festival, Coastal Currents this year and set out to change the communities thinking on a unique public walk way that bridges the two districts called Bottle Alley. We created a half a kilometre long exhibition featuring commissioned works by 16 local artists on 4 sided columns that frame the view of the sea from the shoreline. On August 29th we held a two hour event which opened the festival, and exhibition, with a champagne reception featuring live music from The Rayner Hess Trio and a colour wash down the length down the length of the space with over 1.5k people in attendance, tripling last years audience. In late August we started a month long R&D project with Cardboard Citizens, a London based theatre company working with and for homeless people. We were brought on board by Project Manager Tony McBride as Visual Designers for a verbatim theatre piece entitled Street/Life. After 3 week of devising the piece with Director Terry O’Leary, Designer Joanna Layla and Sound Designer Tom Yardley we did a 3 night sell out run with a cast of 8. We went predominantly analogue for the project using slide projectors to present character motifs. More info here
The second GhostChant single we’ve created artwork for is released this month, in keeping with the whole campaign, it’s another smokey image to complement the hazy sounds of the soon to released debut album, on BBE Records.
Since the recording of their first album, which they recorded in our shared studio 12 years ago, through ‘The Hungry Years’ and during their 7 year hiatus we have always maintained a close relationship with the band Chungking. This week sees the release of their 4th album ‘Defender’, the first on their own label Black Volta. We did a little post work on the albums cover and created the video for the album’s lead single ‘Beautiful World’. The video was created using layers of VHS footage from the NASA archive and it’s being premiered by MUZU on June 1st.
