SHELLY LOVE • THE FALLEN CIRCUS
SHORT FILM: CREATIVE DIRECTION/ ARTWORK/ SCENERY/ ANIMATION AND COMPOSITING
We’ve worked with director/ choreographer Shelly Love before, when we commissioned her to choreograph an advert we created for the Dancing Stage Universe franchise for Konami in 2007, eight years later she asked us to work on her film, The Fallen Circus. The project is funded by the Arts Council and Shelly devised the piece with performers from The National School of Circus Arts (previously Circus Space) in London. Shelly came to us with an edit of the green screen filmed footage and we were tasked with keying, compositing and creating the background artwork for what, so far, is the first chapter of an hour long film.
The narrative has a Wizard of Oz feel, following a young girl, Agnes, who falls from the sky into an unknown land in search of her mother, who has been swept up and away by the wind. Agnes lands at the feet of a Juggler who, along with his fellow performers, have been banished from their ‘Circus in the Sky’ by an evil Ring Master who has stolen their voices. Together they set off on a mission to resolve their situations, meeting many characters and challenges along the way. The environment is sparse and suggestive, with an emphasis on texture and depth, Shelly wanted us to create a painting in every frame. For the final grade, the film went to Three Wise Monkeys, to give it a hand painted Victorian photograph feel.
At the time of writing we are unsure of a release/ screening date.
