CHLOE DEWE MATHEWS ‘PLANTATION’

During 2023 and in to 2024 we worked with photographer Chloe Dewe Mathews editing her 5 screen video piece ‘Plantation’ commissioned by and on display at Franc Nouvelle – Acuitaine MÉCA in Bordeaux from April 2024.

“Plantation is a five screen video piece, set in the Landes de Gascogne, the largest man-made production forest in Western Europe. The work engages with the archive of early Landes photographer and ethnologist Felix Arnaudin as well as local folkloric groups to explore notions of tradition and progress.

From expanses of pine plantations and solar farms that host grazing sheep, to forests raised to the ground by recent wildfires, these stilt walking characters silently traverse and survey these man made landscapes. The final frame reveals an ancient forest; a small patch of biodiverse woodland that remains amid the expansive monoculture.”
