Having worked as the creatives for Hastings Pier Charity, since the restoration works began almost 4 years ago, we were invited to curate and direct the official Opening Day’s morning and afternoon entertainment for the expected 10,000 visitors, May 21st 2016.
We worked around the theme of the Pier’s, world famous, musical heritage with a good measure of tongue in cheek ‘traditional seaside fun’ thrown in. More details and images to follow.
With the announcement on the delay of the opening of the Pier in Hastings being made public and the Pier charity’s first AGM, with public shareholders, imminent we were asked to rethink the Pier hoardings again. We discussed the prospect with CEO Simon Opie, creating new artwork for the 24 metres of frontage, and decided to work on the 3 themes of ‘Work in Progress’, ‘Public Engagement’ and ‘Future Vision’. We also created 3 simple animations of the hoardings for presentation at the AGM which can be viewed on the Pier Charity’s You Tube channel.

After designing the cover for their second edition in April, music bi-monthly The Stinger sent journalist Grace Vogiatzis round to our studio to talk about about how music has influenced our work and played a large part in our career so far. We also produced a Spotify playlist to accompany the article, of tracks we work to. You can read the article online HERE and listen to our selection HERE.
IN CELEBRATION OF PROMENADING
Today we installed our new commission for Hastings Pier Charity, at their new home ‘@ The Hub’ with branding and a commissioned design charting the history of promenading in Hastings and St.Leonards. Hastings Pier Hub is a building the charity have taken over while the reconstruction works are on going and was originally an Art Deco swimming pool.
The tryptic features photographs taken on St.Leonards and Hastings Prom from 1880 onwards and a fantastical impression of the future pier.
CALLING PEOPLE OF HASTINGS
AND ANYONE WHO HAS VISITED.
Hastings Pier Charity has commissioned us to create images for the recessed windows in the new Pier Hub building at the site of the old White Rock Baths, and we are looking for historical photos of Hastings Promenade to help us create two montages. We’re looking to show people, attractions, events or oddities which have happened on the prom.
One of the montages will feature images ‘through the ages’ and the other will focus on 2013, the year the work started on the new Pier.
We’re looking for clear high resolution images as the montages will be quite large and will be on display for at least the next 5 years. We’ll be crediting all those who are included.
If you have any images you think we might be interested in and want to become a part of the Piers story send them to firstname.lastname@example.org Please feel free to share this message.
